One evening, in July 1907, two gentlemen sat around a dining table in a large Victorian mansion in the fashionable Belgrave Square in London.Lord Pirrie was chairman of Harland & Wolff Ltd. of Belfast, at the time probably the largest shipbuilding company in the world, and Mr J Bruce was chairman of the White Star Line.

Both men were concerned with the publicity that their rival Cunard were receiving for crossing the Atlantic high speed. Ismay stated that, rather than enter the market for speed crossing of the Atlantic it was his intention that the name 'White Star Line' would forever be synonymous with the upper end of the trans - Atlantic passenger market. White Star was to be renowned for the excellence of its service provided in the most elegant and luxurious surroundings possible.

Ismay decided then and there that White Star Line would build the greatest vessel the world had ever seen. It would be the largest and most luxurious vessel ever built, and would incorporate the finest materials and craftsmanship in its construction. Four years after Titanic was conceived, the young Gilbert Logan was honing his skills at the less than luxurious shipyards of Harland & Wolff in East Belfast. Already regarded as an excellent cabinetmaker by his employers and his peers, he was awarded the honour of making the most prestigious single item of furniture destined for RMS Titanic - the Captain's Dining Table.

To this day the company that bears our founder's name holds true to the principals of Ismay.

We at Gilbert Logan pride ourselves in the excellence of our service to you our customer and for providing you with exclusive furniture to make your homes the most elegant and luxurious they can be.
